GED Testing in California
The General Educational Development (GED) test measures your knowledge and skills against those of traditional high school graduates to determine if you have high school level skills in reading, writing, social studies, science and math. Successfully passing the GED in California allows you to receive a California High School Equivalency Certificate. According to the Center for Adult Learning, 93 percent of colleges and 96 percent of employers accept the GED as equal to a high school diploma.

The California GED
The California GED has five sections: Language Arts, Writing; Social Studies; Science; Language Arts, Reading; and Mathematics. Only the Language Arts portion and the Mathematics portion have two parts. Part II of the Language Arts, Writing section requires that you write an essay in 45 minutes. Part II of the Mathematics section does not allow the calculator.
